Mapping with Elmer the Patchwork Elephant

This week we ran mapping workshops at Newcastle City Library as part of the 10th anniversary of their new building. It also happens to be the 30th birthday of Elmer the Patchwork Elephant so he became the theme for the maps.

Year 2 from Lemington Riverside Primary School and Year 5 from Sacred Heart RC Primary School came in for stories with Elmer and then they drew maps to show where they’d take him.

As you can see from the children’s work linked below, Elmer is in for a very exciting time!

Many thanks to the City Library staff for facilitating the workshop, and all the children who took part. And look out for the Elmer’s Great North Parade coming to Tyne and Wear in August (until November) – the Parade will feature over fifty individually designed Elmer the Patchwork Elephant sculptures to raise money for St Oswald’s Hospice.
